Off Duty Officer Seriously Injured in Truck Accident

In Phoenix, it is reported that an off duty officer suffered injuries during a truck accident.  The truck accident, which took place on Sunday, also led to the death of a 27 year old woman by the name of Lisa Lechtenberg.

Police say that the accident occurred around 10:30 PM near 19^th Avenue and Happy Valley Road.  Supposedly, a Jeep Cherokee was traveling westbound and crossed into oncoming traffic.  The jeep then struck a Ford F150 pickup truck, leading to the death of passenger Lechtenberg.

The driver of the pickup was a 28 year old off duty police officer who suffered serious injuries.  At this time, investigators have not released the officer's name.  They have told reporters that the driver of the jeep suffered major injuries, but is expected to survive.  Two children who were riding in the jeep also suffered injuries.  There ages are 5 and 7.

Police are uncertain what may have prompted the crash, but have said that they think the driver of the jeep may have suffered a medical incident prior to the collision.  They do not believe that either driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol.
