Woman Faces Federal Sentence after Leaving Scene of Accident on Indian Reservation

In Chandler, a woman was recently convicted by a federal jury.  Reports indicate that she was accused of leaving the scene of a fatal auto accident while on an Indian reservation.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Phoenix, the defendant, 64-year-old Victoria Flockhart, faces criminal sentencing in November.

Evidence presented at her trial showed that on the morning of March 21, 2007, she drove her car and hit and killed a 34-year-old Native American.  The victim was trying to cross a road on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Reservation, which is east of Phoenix.

By law, Flockhart was required to stop after the car accident, but she committed a crime by fleeing the scene.  A federal conviction for leaving the scene of a fatal accident carries a maximum penalty of nine years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine or both.
