Train Hits SUV Leading to Injuries

When a Metro light rail train struck collided with a SUV Friday night, three people were injured.

According to Phoenix police Lt. David Laslavic, the driver of the SUV apparently ran a red light in an attempt to get onto Interstate 10 at Jefferson Street. The vehicle was occupied by a family from Michigan, including a husband, wife and their three children.

Although details of the train accident are currently being withheld, Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Jonathon Jacobs reported that a 40-year-old man, a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. There is no word yet whether those injured were on the train or the occupants of the SUV.

The accident will be investigated thoroughly by Phoenix police. The involved train is now back in service and that railway has been re-opened for service.
