Woman Wins $7 Million for Mesothelioma Lawsuit
The New Jersey Supreme Court decided to let stand the case of a woman who won a $7 million award from oil giant ExxonMobil.
Bonnie Anderson brought suit against the company after her she got asbestos cancer from being exposed to her husband's work clothes. Back in 2008 a jury awarded her $7 million for proving that she contracted malignant peritoneal mesothelioma from either washing her husband's clothes or from her own job as an electrician for the company. She had worked for ExxonMobil from 1975 to 1986.
While her husband did not get cancer, Anderson did in 2001. Although the company attempted to argue that there was no way to determine how she got the cancer, a jury disagreed. Now three years later, the Court refused to hear the case, choosing instead to let the decision stand.
