Tandem Bike Riders Seriously Injured during Collision

In the state of Arizona, a serious bicycle accident led to the death of a local woman as well as the injuries of a man. The accident occurred when a van crashed into a tandem bicycle and led to the arrest of a man who was going through the victims' belongings when police arrived at the scene.

Officers say that the bike accident took place during morning hours on Tuesday. The tandem bike riders, a 46-year-old male and a 47-year-old female, had been heading North when a van crashed into the back of their bicycle. Police say that the couple was wearing helmets and even had a red strobe light on their bike to warn drivers of their presence.

The female victim suffered serious chest and head injuries and had to be rushed to a local medical facility where she was later pronounced dead. The male victim also sustained chest injuries and was flown to another medical facility. His condition remains uncertain at this time.

Officers reported that the driver of the van did not appear impaired and even consented to breath testing. The only arrest, the apprehension of a 77-year-old male, occurred when they saw the man rummaging through the victims' personal items after the collision.
