Seat Belt May Have Saved Victim's Life

A seat belt could have saved the life of a woman in Phoenix last week who perished in a truck accident. The accident happened early Thursday morning in a sandy area near Interstate 10.

The driver, 42-year-old Patricia John, was killed on the scene while the three other passengers, none of whom were wearing seat belts, were injured. One man was thrown from the vehicle is being treated for serious injuries while two children, a 5-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl, received non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety lamented that John's death and the other injuries could have been avoided if they had all been properly strapped in to the vehicle. They are still investigating the cause of the truck accident to see what factors were involved in John losing control of the truck.
