Family Sues for 18 Month Old's Death
Tragedy struck Cedar Rapids when an 18-month-old girl was found suffering from seizure-like symptoms last week; now the family is filing a wrongful death suit.
Kamryn Schlitter died at an Iowa City hospital one week after being discovered in an apartment at 245 Clymer Road in Hiawatha. Her death certificate states that she died from a "non-accidental (inflicted) trauma to the head." The lawsuit filed by Kamryn's mother, Nicole King, claims that the young girl's father, Zyriah Schlitter, and Amy Parmer, beat and abused the girl, causing her death.
At this time no criminal charges have been filed in relation to the case. While Linn County Attorney Jerry Sanden made a statement that the investigation is "active and ongoing" he would not answer specific questions. He did say that, "It's a matter that our office takes very seriously, and we are working together with the (Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation) and the Hiawatha Police Department in an effort to resolve this case."
The lawsuit also targets the owners of Apple Kids, Inc. for failing to report a bruise on Kamryn's head to the Iowa Department of Human Services.
