Firefighters Injured during Collision
After their ambulance was struck on the way to the hospital, three firefighters themselves were injured in the car accident.
According to Fire Capt. Tony Mure the ambulance was dispatched to attend to a 43-year-old man who had been electrocuted near 43rd and Northern avenues. They were in the process of transporting him to Phoenix Baptist Hospital when a car heading west on Bethany Home Road struck them from behind.
The impact "jostled everybody, threw them around in the back of the ambulance", Mure added. As a result, the three firefighters sustained minor injuries. The patient died later at the hospital, but authorities don't believe the car accident was a factor. The driver of the vehicle that caused the crash did not sustain any injuries. The victims' identities have yet to be released.
